Tiger Woods will decline to play the role of host at his AT&T National in Maryland - starting today (Thursday, July 3rd) - in order to let his knee rest following surgery.

The world number one would usually compete in the preceding Earl Woods Memorial Pro-Am as well as the main tournament, but has been advised to take it easy by doctors after an operation on his troublesome knee less than two weeks ago.

"I would love to be there," said the newly-crowned US Open champion.

He continued: "Unfortunately, I don’t think I can make it. Flying, unfortunately, swells up my leg pretty good. When I flew home from the procedure, it ballooned up a little bit, so my doctors advised me to lay low and stay away from planes."

Korean KJ Choi will be defending his title, with Robert Allenby, Steve Stricker, Jim Furyk and Rocco Mediate all in attendance.
