Larger-than-life John Daly says he is glad of the backing he receives on the world golf circuit.
The two-time major winner, famed for his rock star lifestyle and yard-eating drives, is back to play at this week's Hong Kong Open.
Daly admitted he is buoyed by the support he enjoys from local crowds around the world and is hoping to find his rhythm at the event.
The 42-year-old told the Associated Press: "It's great. It's great to see the people come out and watch me play. It makes me try harder and it makes you want to play better."
"Sometimes I might force it more than I should but it's kind of like you have a home crowd wherever you go, so I've been very fortunate."
Daly was positioned four shots back from the leaders on two-under par after day one of the event in Fanling, shooting a first round 68.
