Seve progress continues

Golf legend Seve Ballesteros has continued his gradual recovery from a series of operations, with the announcement that he is to leave intensive care at the La Paz Hospital in Madrid.

Ballesteros was taken into the medical facility last month after collapsing at an airport in the Spanish capital.

He has since undergone surgery to remove a brain tumour and reduce swelling which had built up.

Now the hospital has confirmed the five-time major winner is continuing his rehabilitation, backed by an army of fans around the golfing world.

A spokesman for the hospital commented: "He is continuing his rehabilitation and is receiving restricted visits. Severiano Ballesteros has left the intensive care unit and has now changed ward.

"Although this is good news, I would like to ask for everyone's patience - because the process is a lengthy one, and there is still a long way to go."

Ballesteros was named as the European Tour's Player of the Century in 2000. His last of 50 wins on the tour came back in 1995.
