Mexican Lorena Ochoa could have been affected by her responsibilities as host of her own Lorena Ochoa Invitational event, sitting five shots off the lead after day one.
The tournament is the first being put on by the ladies games number one golfer, taking place at her home course in Guadalajara, Mexico.
After suggesting that she wasn't too concerned about who takes the title in the run-up to the event, Ochoa revealed frustration at her first round performance, which was a one-over par round of 73.
She told the Associated Press: "I can't say I'm happy because I'm not, but I feel like I can get closer.
"I hope to do it tomorrow. It's a good pressure to play here, to feel the good vibes and the love of my fans. I feel motivated because I know that we have three more days to play."
Former world number one Annika Sorenstam was tied with seven other players at the top of the leaderboard on four-under par.
