Making a reliable impact is the most important element of a swing for inconsistent golfers to concentrate on, according to one expert.
Writing on the PGA's official website, 2007 PGA Teacher of the Year, Jim Hardy, says that a combination of timing, tempo, rhythm, balance and athletic issues can put a player out of position so that they struggle to find a repetitive consistent connection with the ball.
He said that dedicated practice on these elements can make it "easier to accomplish or to work on the causes in your swing that have put you out of position in the first place and required you to have such an athletic recovery to find a correct impact".
Mr Hardy went on to recommend: "One way is to say you will keep your swing and work on the keys (timing/tempo/etc) that allow you to recover and the other way is to change your swing so the out of position parts are either eliminated or less severe and it becomes easier to find impact."
As well as regularly figuring in lists of the world's top golf coaches, Hardy has lent his expert opinions to TV broadcasts such as NBC, ESPN and MISLOU.
